The Yahara River Grocery Cooperative got its start in July 2006 when a group of citizens came together to discuss the loss of Main Street Market. At that time, an interim board of volunteers was set up and committees were formed to address organizational issues such as incorporation, bylaws, membership, marketing, product buying, etc. The members of the interim board and committees represented the initial membership of the fledgling, unincorporated cooperative.
Once the bylaws were written, and the structure of a board was outlined by the research committee, the initial membership voted for officers of the new Board of Directors for 2007.
