
There was a Dickens of a lot of Christmas spirit running rampent Sunday morning on the streets of Stoughton! With the temperature a balmy 37 degrees, there were 137 individuals dressed in their holiday finery and winter running gear for the 4th annual Dickens of a Run & Walk.
Participants ranged in age from 4 to 78 and included Santa's reindeers. came from all over including Stoughton, Oregon, Middleton, Verona, Cottage Grove, metro-Milwaukee, the Fox Valley and a few from Iowa and Illinois to make the 5K or 2K trek through the streets of historic Stoughton during its lovely Victorian Holiday Weekend. There were prizes for the top 5K finishers and best dressed. In addition to prizes to the top finisher in the three 5K divisions, door prizes were drawn for multiple prizes, all donated by our sponsors. Shelby Andereson of Madison led the race with a time of 16:47. For the 4th year, Beth Medinger was the top female with a time of 18.27. Impressive at 5th place overall was Brent Wesolek from Stoughton, while pushing a bike trailer with his baby daughter in it (time 20:07). |

The Dickens of a Run & Walk raised money for Stoughton food pantries, the Victorian Holiday Weekend Fund and the Yahara River Grocery Co-op. The Co-op also collected canned food items for a food drive. Besides the Yahara River Grocery Cooperative, the Dickens of a Run & Walk was sponsored by McFarland State Bank, Silverado Spring Spa and Salons, Next Generation, Stoton Cycle and Fleet Feet Sports of Madison.Additional thanks to the Stoughton Police Department for their assistance with safety on the course; to Cabibbo's, Albert's Produce and UNFI for food donations; and to chef Mary Huotari of the Yahara River Grocery Cooperative for the fresh bakery items that were served. |
