Volunteer opportunities

You can make a difference every week, once a month, or just one time, by helping the Yahara River Grocery Cooperative run smoothly. Members receive an additional 5% shopping discount for assisting at the store 3 hours per week on a regular basis.

Check out the following ways that you can help at the Co-op. If you find something that you are interested in doing, then email us by clicking here or call 877-0947.

volunteerStock clerk

Play a supportive part in receiving and stocking goods especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays for produce and Wednesday for general merchandise. Any hours between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. are helpful. There is a wide variety of activities including restocking shelves, re-labeling items and assisting with delivery. We are looking for a regular commitment of day and time.

Grocery delivery

The Co-op needs someone to help unload the large grocery delivery on Wednesdays (late morning to early afternoon). This is a great way to get in shape!

Customer service

Be focused on making shoppers feel welcome and help with general questions about where items are in the store, how the shopper can become a member or where they can make suggestions. This role is welcome anytime the store is open but we have a special need from the hours of 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Friday and Saturdays. This position could also help do research to find good recipes, or helpful information about health, buying local, etc. We can then make printouts and post around the store.

Filing clerk

Paper work never ends in the business office of the store. So many invoices and bills to keep in order. If you can read an invoice and have the alphabet down pat, we need 1 to 3 hours every week to keep up with our filing system. This job could be done anytime, but evening hours are best when things are less hectic.

Good food ambassador

This is a public relations type of job. There are several community groups that the Co-op wants to visit to attract their membership and patronage at the Co-op. Teachers, Seniors and business groups are all on our radar. We will make the contacts and set up your time and place for a little “show and tell” about the Co-op and the types of products we offer. Sampling and giving some general information about the health benefits of whole and organic foods will be part of the presentation. Your input in designing the presentation is welcome.

Handy person

There are many fix-it jobs on the Co-op's to-do list. Let us know if you're handy and can help.

Kitchen assistant

Here’s your chance to show your culinary skills. The Co-op has a growing demand for deli and grab 'n go items. Plus we can use soup makers and help with the salads in the salad and olive bar. You should be careful with knives and have excellent cleanliness standards.

Sanitarian (cleaner)

There’s always a need to tidy up and clean, isn’t there? The Co-op bulk bins need regular cleaning and restocking. And there are other types of clean up around store displays and coolers. This type of work is best done during evening shifts when the back work area is less active, but any hour or day will be considered. If you like to clean, let us know.

Special events

The Co-op is involved in several community events. If you like to plan and coordinate events, we could use your help.

Volunteer opportunities

The members are the foundations of a cooperative:

  • They organized it,
  • They own it, and
  • Their needs are the reason it exists.
